Back To Tpcr For The Act #9.
BCM - Steve Caunt PR posted Friday October 30, 2009.
It’s a big season ahead for Steve Caunt and the entire Fire Services Plus ACT #9 Sprintcar team, continuing at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway this weekend in Sydney.
This meeting might only be another round of the TPCR track championship, but it is more than that for Caunt. This (Oct. 31) and the next (Nov. 7) Parramatta meeting are important to the team to give them more of an idea of what will be needed and give them more experience for hitting the road for the upcoming Wanless World Series Sprintcars rounds across Australia.
Crew chief Garry Laneryie has made sure that the ex-Kinser Maxim is fully prepared for this weekends challenge and Caunt is champing at the bit to hit the Parramatta clay flat out after the pleasing run at the recently re-run Brian Healy Memorial on the 17th of October.
“I was happy with the run we had as we timed well, had great run in my heat with a win over Max (Dumesny) and making the dash” he said this week. “Unfortunately we had some contact with another competitor in the dash that had me half a lap behind so it made it a tough starting position in the A-Main, but at least the car still had all four wheels on it.”
Starting so far back was always going to be tough, but with the racing during the final being a follow the leader style race with little passing on the track, to start and finish in sixteenth was a good result. “This Kinser car is something special, you ask it to do things and it does it. Hopefully the results we achieved weren’t just a ‘flash in the pan’ and we can consolidate and move forward from here.” He said from the teams’ workshop this week.
Racing the sprintcar for Caunt is the next step in his career as he has been at the top of his game in the fast and furious Formula 500 division for many years now, but the Australian distributor of the American built Stallard Chassis hasn’t turned his back on the pint sized rockets. With so many date clashes between the two divisions Caunt will only get a few occasions during the summer to race in the F500’s with the National and New South Wales title events already locked away in the calendar, plus a couple of meetings where he may race in both.
Heading to TPCR for this weekend and next is all about gaining more experience for the Formula 500 stand out and his team, and Caunt understands that the next five or so months hitting the road with WWSS wont be easy. “There are plenty of other guys like Robbie (Farr) and Max and eight or so other teams who will be on the road just like us, its just that they have been doing it a lot longer than I have (with a Sprintcar). We intend to do all the rounds of World Series and the rest of the major shows on the national calendar, and hopefully leave an impression during 2009/10 speedway season.”
